Para-cycling made its Paralympic debut at New York/Stoke Mandeville 1984 and has been contested at every Games since.

Para-cycling is open to athletes with a physical or visual impairment and is divided into track and road events. In road cycling, athletes compete on a tandem bike, standard bike, three wheeled trike or handcycle, depending on their impairment. Track cycling is contested in a velodrome and is for athletes who compete on a tandem or standard bicycle.
