About the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place from 28 August to 8 September, featuring as many as 4,400 athletes from around the world.

They will compete in 22 sports across various iconic venues in Paris, including at the Eiffel Tower, the Chateau de Versailles and the Grand Palais.

This is the first time in history that France will host the summer Paralympic Games.

Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony

For the first time, the Paralympic Opening Ceremony will be held outside of a stadium.

Athletes will parade through the iconic Avenue des Champs-Elysees to Place de la Concorde.

An expected 65,000 spectators will get to witness this historic moment, which highlights the host city’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

Paralympic Medals

The medals for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games feature a piece of original iron from the Eiffel Tower.

Designed to be distinguished by touch, they include engravings and braille.

The medals were created in collaboration with the French jeweler Chaumet, linking sport with French cultural heritage.

Paris 2024 Mascot: The Phryge

The Paralympic Phryge, inspired by the Phrygian cap, symbolises liberty and freedom.

The mascot has a running blade and represents athletes with disabilities.

The mascot promotes the inclusivity values of the Paralympic Games and the importance of sports.

Paralympic Torch

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Torch, designed by Mathieu Lehanneur, represents equality, water and peacefulness.

It has the same design for both the Paralympic and Olympic Games, emphasizing a unified vision.

Australia’s history at the Games

Australia has participated at every summer Paralympic Games since their inception in 1960.

To date, Australians have won 587 gold, 623 silver and 503 bronze medals, for a total of 1713 medals at the summer Paralympic Games.
