How to get classified 

Sport Inclusion Australia run classification for athletes with an intellectual impairment in Australia. If you would like to get classified for Para-sport, please refer to the eligibility information at Sport Inclusion Australia.

What Para-sports are available for athletes with intellectual impairment? 

Currently, athletes with intellectual impairment can compete in Athletics, Swimming and Table Tennis at the Paralympic Games. The decision about which sports, events and impairments that are included in the Paralympic Games is made by the IPC and the International Federations.  

Equestrian, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Sailing, Tennis, Golf, Soccer all offer sports opportunities for athletes with intellectual impairments in Australia. For more information about non Para-sports contact Sport Inclusion Australia. 

Classifiers for athletes with an intellectual impairment 

Classifiers, or eligibility officers, for athletes with an intellectual impairment are specialised psychologists or sports science experts.
