There is a new generation of Australian Para-cyclists taking the world by storm, and among them is 23-year-old Paige Greco.
Never was this more apparent than at the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, where Paige set three world records in two days, was crowned world champion in the women’s 500m time trial C3 and women’s 3km individual pursuit C3, and won a silver medal in the women’s scratch race C3.
And as impressive as she is on the track, Paige is no one-trick pony. Cementing her superstar status, Paige won another three gold medals on the 2019 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup circuit, and rainbows in the women’s time trial C3.
Even more unbelievably, at this stage in the last Paralympic cycle, Paige was on track to represent Australia in Para-athletics at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Fast-forward four years, and the switch from Para-athletics to Para-cycling has proven to be a master stroke.
She successfully defended her pursuit crown at the 2020 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Milton, Canada and while she missed selection for the team for the 2020 road worlds she was selected for the 2020 Australian Paralympic Team.
Paige won the first gold medal of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the women’s 3000m individual pursuit C1-3 event, breaking her own world record in the process to win in a time of 3:50.815.
In the women’s road time trial C1-3, she raced in challenging conditions at the rain-soaked Fuji Speedway to finish in bronze position. In the women’s road race C1-3, she claimed another bronze medal, which was determined in a bunch sprint.
