Chris Pitt made his Paralympic debut in Para-shooting at the age of 51, proving better than anybody that it is never too late to live your dreams.
From humble beginnings, Chris Pitt’s life on his family’s cane farm in Bundaberg was changed when he was diagnosed with dermatomyositis. The degenerative muscle disease stalled his progress as a swimmer, but his tenacity to become an athlete never left him. Years later, he would find his way back to sport when he watched Rheed McCracken compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. If a Bundaberg boy like Rheed could make his way to the Paralympic games at 15 years old, Chris knew nothing could stop him to do the same.
Chris made his international debut at the 2013 International Paralympic Committee shooting World Cup in Szczecin, Poland. He placed 13th, and continued to propel his Paralympic career into outstanding performances in world championships through 2014-2015 before qualifying into the Australian Paralympic Team for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
Chris made his mark in Rio 2016, finishing 14th in the 10m air pistol event. Having his sights on Tokyo 2020, Chris had to go through rounds of surgeries and recovery before he could prepare. Overcoming immense challenges, training hard, and demonstrating once again his drive as an para-athlete, Chris successfully made it to the Tokyo 2020 games. He finished 25th in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 and 30th in the Mixed 25m Pistol SH1.
Chris still lives in Bundaberg and spends time with family.
