Read MoreMischa Ginns has dreamed of competing on the world’s biggest stage since she was a little girl. Initially taking to the pool, Mischa trained twice a day throughout primary and high school in South Africa.
At 17 years old she was given the opportunity to student and live in Australia for a year, and fell in love with the Aussie ‘way of life’. She immigrated to Australia in 2008 and hasn’t looked back.
In April 2012, Mischa was injured during a rowing competition, she underwent spinal surgery during which there were medical complications. She lost more of the function down her right side, spending 4 years in hospital undergoing medical treatment and rehabilitation. Mischa had to learn how to talk, swallow, eat and drink again.
She beat the odds, showing her strength and determination finding solace in sport when she picked up a badminton racket in 2022. Mischa went along to Come & Try Day in Melbourne and realised just how much she loved the sport.
Fast forward two years and Mischa has competed at her first BWF Para Badminton World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.
Her goal is not only Paris 2024 Paralympic Games but to have a wider impact on future para athletes, create more awareness about engaging in sport and provide more opportunity for other potential young para athletes to fulfil their dreams.
