Growing up on the Sunshine Coast, Daniel Bounty loved playing sport and was actively involved at Nippers at his local Surf Live Saving Club.
At the age of 8, Daniel acquired a brain injury when he was involved in a body surfing accident at Kings Beach, Caloundra. The accident caused bleeding to the brain, which lead to a clot and stroke.
After being told to avoid contact sports, Daniel’s mum suggested that he enter a school cross country event in 2013. It was on the track that he fell in love with the sport, going on to compete in Little Athletics, where he discovered he could compete as a Para-athlete.

Daniel took first steps towards his ultimate goal of winning a gold medal at the Paralympic Games, making his debut at Tokyo 2020.
At the Games, he finished in 6th position in the men’s 1500m T38 with a time of 4:12.95.
