Anu started pursuing sport while studying a teaching degree, medalling in Para-badminton and Para-rowing, as the first female para-rower to represent South Australia.
The South Australian decided to shift to triathlons due to the high-nature impact of badminton on her body, and a bulged disc in her back when she returned to the water in 2020 ultimately ended her rowing career. But it did start her on a new and exciting journey which she has taken to wholeheartedly.
Anu made her international Para-triathlon debut, just two days after her official international qualification, in August 2022 at the World Triathlon Para Series in Swansea. It was a huge trip for Anu who travelled by herself to the other side of the world with Australian coaches dubbing her a “firecracker”.
The Paralympic hopeful came away with a silver medal, despite organisers dropping her best discipline due to weather, finishing ahead of Cecile Saboureau by one second.
She went on to win a World Cup event a month later followed by a third-place finish at the World Championships.
Anu’s performance continues to impress, and she has definitely reinforced her position as a Paralympic hopeful.
