Hodgson always had a deep love for the mountains. On skis from a young age, she grew up ski-racing, then went on become a ski instructor and then a coach. When asked to become a sighted guide, Hodgson jumped at the challenge and hasn’t looked back.
Working as a sighted guide with Para-alpine skier Patrick Jensen since 2019, the pair have achieved incredible results together.
During the 2019/20 season, Jensen and Hodgson had a breakthrough World Cup season together. At the opening World Cup of the year, the pair placed third the Super-G event in Veysonnaz, Switzerland. They went on to win a further two bronze medals at the 2020 World Para-alpine Skiing World Cup in Prato Nevoso, Italy.
This success during the Northern Hemisphere season earnt them a nomination for the Snow Australia Athlete of the Year.
The pair contested in five events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, kicking off their campaign with the Men’s Downhill Vision Impaired event, finishing in eighth with a time of 1:23.71.
On Day 2, the pair finished in sixth position in the Men’s Super G Vision Impaired event, recording a time of 1:16.25 (+7.34 seconds behind gold medallist Neil Simpson and guide Andrew Simpson of Great Britain).
In the Men’s Super Combined Vision Impaired event, the duo finished in eighth in the Super G leg of the event, however, a crash in the Slalom leg saw them register a DNF.
Despite a solid first run in the Men’s Giant Slalom Vision Impaired on Day 6, the two were unable to finish the second run to ultimately record a DNF.
The pair closed their campaign with a third top 10 finish of the Games in the Men’s Slalom Vision Impaired event, finishing in eighth place with a time of 1:51.88.
Highly competitive but with a relaxed demeanour, Hodgson considers athletics legend Cathy Freeman her hero. Away from the slopes, she enjoys swimming. reading. cooking and hiking.
