Do you think you have what it takes to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games? Your chance is here thanks to the new ‘Talent 4 Tokyo’ initiative.
Through funding from the Coca Cola Australia Foundation, the APC in collaboration with our sporting partners will deliver a number of Talent for Tokyo 2020 talent initiatives in every state and territory throughout the country between May-July 2016, with the aim of sports getting a kick start and injection of new talent to support their programs four years out from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The program aims to support all Paralympic sports and impairment types which Australia participate in at the Paralympic Games, including the two new Paralympic sports set to make their debut at Tokyo; Para-badminton and Para-taekwondo. Athletes not yet classified, or current athletes wishing to try a new Para-sport are encouraged to attend.
A range of sport specific and generic tests will be conducted to assist in identifying likely sport eligibility and potential in addition to providing participants with an opportunity to experience the positive physical and social benefits of sport.
The project as two specific aims;
- Identify Paralympic potential athletes
- Connect people with a physical, vision or intellectual impairment to sporting options
The sessions will also provide an opportunity to educate coaches and others interested in Paralympic sport about options to get involved.
Identified athletes will be linked with the relevant sport/s and provided additional levels of support to fast track their development.
Individuals from 10 years of age are welcome to register and must have a verifiable physical, vision or intellectual impairment eligible to compete in Paralympic sport.
