Paralympics Australia’s newly-appointed Chief Financial Officer Steve Gatt says he was drawn to the role by the prospect of growing the Paralympic Movement and helping realise its goals around diversity and inclusion.

The former BHP/BlueScope Steel commercial and financial manager, who most recently spent eight years as CFO and Chief Operating Officer at Netball Victoria, starts at PA on June 19.

“There’s a real attachment that people have to the Paralympic Movement, to the Paralympic Games and the broader benefits they provide in terms of legacy,” Gatt said.

“That’s really motivating. One of the attractions for me in this role is to really become part of that and contribute to continually growing it.”

Gatt brings extensive finance and business acumen to Paralympics Australia. He has held the position as Chair of the Finance Committee for VicSport and founded Sports Accounting Australia, which provides CFO, accounting and bookkeeping services to numerous sporting organisations. He has been a Board Director with Triathlon Victoria and is currently Vice-Chair of the Sport Excellence Scholarship Fund.

Gatt has experience in customised management reporting, business improvement and configured system implementations, as well as capital projects, IT and digital transformation projects.

“I think I’m ready for a new challenge, a different challenge,” he said. “I’ve got the technical experience in accounting and finance to really make an impact here at PA. I think there’s a sense that we’re heading towards something amazing in Brisbane, but there are a lot of steps along the way and a lot of work that needs to be done now to make the most of that opportunity.

“But, just overall, the cause of Paralympics Australia is really exciting to me and something I’m looking forward to diving into.”

Paralympics Australia Chief Executive Catherine Clark welcomed Gatt to the organisation.

“Steve is an incredible talent in the sport industry. He brings extensive business and finance experience, together with some fantastic skills and expertise in technology and digital transformation. Most importantly, Steve is purpose and values led, he really cares about the responsibility we have as custodians of this Movement and the positive impact we can have in our communities,” Clark said.

“Our Strategic Plan outlines ambitious goals that will change lives for people with a disability. None of it can be achieved without securing the financial sustainability of the Australian Paralympic Movement for the long-term.

“We are confident that as CFO, Steve will bring the kind of strategic leadership to optimise our business operations and ensure we can support the growth of the Paralympic movement in Australia.”
