Jackson Hamilton originally started his sporting journey on the court, playing basketball. But as his vision deteriorated, he started to focus on athletics, mainly on throwing events.
Sport runs in the Hamilton blood, with Jackson’s dad (Glenn Hamilton) and uncle (Reid Hamilton) Olympians in beach volleyball in Athens in 1996 for New Zealand.
Ex-Paralympian Brad Scott was his first coach and had a large impact on his career, inspiring Jackson and helping him on his journey.
In his teens, Jackson linked up with WAIS coach Morgan Ward and hasn’t looked back. Jackson broke Australian Para records in the long jump, shot, discus and javelin. In discus he won medals in able-bodied Australian championships.
But with the news only javelin in his F13 classification was on the Paris 2024 Paralympics program, he shifted his focus to the javelin.
