Qian Yang has been at the forefront of Australia’s huge success in Para-table tennis in recent years. At Paris 2024, she did it again, capturing singles gold four days after winning gold in the WD20 doubles with Lina Lei.

Qian represented China at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics, winning one gold and three silver medals.

At Tokyo 2020, she became a singles champion for the first time defeating the legendary Natalya Partyka of Poland in a five-set epic semi-final before toppling Brazilian Bruna Costa Alexandre in the final.

This time there was no epic to seal the crown. Qian produced a commanding performance against Partyka in the final to win 3-0 (11-6, 11-9, 12-10).

Yang said through an interpreter that her “concentration” got her through, and she was “very happy”.
