Paralympics Australia has announced a partnership with Experience Gold Coast for the upcoming Paralympian of the Year Awards Dinner to be held in November.

With all thanks to Experience Gold Coast the awards dinner will be held in southeast Queensland for the first time, recognising the important role the region will play for the Paralympic movement and accessible tourism in the lead up to Brisbane 2032.

“With the investment from Experience Gold Coast we are delighted to be holding the 2024 Paralympian of the Year Awards on the Gold Coast.”

“The awards dinner will not only celebrate our Paralympians success and records in Paris but also their courage, resilience and dedication” said Cameron Murray, Paralympics Australia interim CEO.

The awards dinner will be hosted by Paralympics Australia’s Official Partner RACV Resorts and staged at the Royal Pines Resort Ballroom on Saturday November 30 with 500-plus people expected to attend.

“There is no better place than right here on the Gold Coast to host the Paralympian of the Year Awards and celebrate these extraordinary athletes and their achievements,” Mayor Tom Tate said.

“This is the Gold Coast’s chance to not only congratulate our own local Paralympic athletes but also our champions from across the country.”

“This is the first time these Awards have been held in South East Queensland providing us with an opportunity to highlight our destination as a home for all high-performance sports, to all athletes and aspiring future champions, national and international sporting bodies and fans.”

It is estimated that the Paralympian of the Year Awards will contribute many hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Gold Coast overnight visitor economy, with up to 1,050 bed nights, with up to 90 percent of visitors travelling from interstate or intrastate.

“We cannot wait to welcome our nation’s Paralympic team in November, as they celebrate their journey, efforts and victories, while also experiencing our own green and gold while staying on the Gold Coast” Experience Gold Coast Head of Visitor Economy and Corporate Relations Rachel Hancock said.

“Our city continues to attract new major sporting events on the runway to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and hosting these Awards adds another string to our bow.”

In addition to the awards dinner Paralympics Australia will be hosting a forum to debrief the Paris Games. Beyond Paris – Insights, Partnerships and Performance Planning will be a two-day opportunity to gather our key stakeholders together at RACV Royal Pines Resort, Gold Coast to talk all things Para-sport and help to frame a path towards Milan Cortina, LA and beyond.
