Australia’s Celine Vinot has bowed out in the knockout stage of the badminton tournament, ending her first Paralympic campaign with a admirable 2-1 defeat in her final group game.

Coming off a loss in her other round match yesterday, Vinot put up a gallant fight to take a gruelling first game in the SL3 class against India’s Mandeep Kaur.

But Kaur, World Badminton’s 5th ranked player in the classification, was able to find her rhythm in the second and was on track to comfortably take the deciding game before Vinot staged a mini fightback that ultimately fell agonisingly short.

Vinot, ranked 8th, said her time in Paris had been a big “learning curve” and will aim to compete at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

“There’s a lot to take out of this,” Vinot said.

“I know I’m on an even keel with a lot of these players and there’s definitely a chance of me trying for the next Games as well.”

Vinot was the last Australian representative in the Para-badminton tournament, closing the sport’s Paris campaign.
