With the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) is kicking off its supporters’ campaign with the release of its collectible coin program.
The Mint is proud to have released various coins over the decades, in support of the country’s most celebrated para-athletes.
With two Australian Paralympic Team coins, collectors, sports enthusiasts and investors will be able to celebrate the uniting spirit of this pinnacle event.
Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon said the Mint had previously honoured Australia’s Paralympic team with dedicated coins.
“The Mint is a proud Paralympic partner once again, and excited to continue our long-standing tradition of marking our nation’s greatest moments and recording our ongoing achievements in history, through the art of coins.
“These stunning keepsakes will be treasured for years to come, and will serve as a reminder of the sense of pride and achievement we have in our athletes,” Mr Gordon said.
The 2024 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Paralympic Team coin depicts a table tennis player hitting mid swing. The colour portion of the coin is the trajectory of the ball and shows the power with which the athlete has hit the ball.
In celebration of the athletes, the 2024 $5 Selectively Gold-Plated Fine Silver Proof Paralympic Team coin features a long jump athlete and a track athlete highlighted in gold plate. Behind them is an athletics track with the Eiffel Tower protruding through the centre.
These coins will be available for purchase from the Mint’s eShop, Coin Shop located at Canberra Museum and Gallery (in Canberra City), the Mint’s Contact Centre on 1300 652 020 or through the Mint’s authorised dealers.
