Australia’s men’s national wheelchair basketball teams, the Rollers and U23 Spinners, will play a series of matches against Germany and Japan as both Aussie teams prepare for World Championships this year.
The 12-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport will provide the Rollers, who are ranked fifth in the world, stiff competition against Tokyo 2020 silver medallists Japan and the seventh-placed Germans before the 16-player squad is reduced to the 12 who will head to the Tokyo Paralympics Anniversary event from August 22-26 and then on to the IWBF World Championships in Dubai from November 11-28.
The U23 Spinners’ World Championship will be in Phuket, Thailand from September 3-17 under Head Coach, Brad Ness.
“These guys are going up against three of the top eight in the world senior teams, so it is going to be a tough series of games for them and some great learning, but will hopefully give them some invaluable game experience to prepare for their junior championships,” said Leigh Gooding, General Manager of Basketball Australia’s Wheelchair and 3×3 programs.
“It will be an extremely high-level and competitive series of International friendlies that we have put in place.”
Games can be streamed via Playsight.
