Cycling Australia has named the athletes selected to the Australian team for the 2020 Union Cycliste Internationale Para-cycling Road World Championships, to be held in Ostend, Belgium, from 4-7 June.
The team features nine-time world champion Carol Cooke (T2), who claimed both road race and time trial world titles in 2019, and reigning time trial world champions Emily Petricola (C4), Alistair Donohoe (C5) and Darren Hicks (C2).
2019 World Championships medallists Meg Lemon (C4) and Stu Jones (T2), 2016 Paralympic Games silver medallist Stu Tripp (H5), and Grant Allen (H4) round out the eight-member team.
The Championships will be one of the final stops for Australia’s Para-cyclists ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
“In line with our Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games strategy, we have selected a strong team to compete in Belgium,” said Warren McDonald, Cycling Australia’s Para-cycling Technical Director.
“After our recent success at the 2020 Para-cycling Track World Championships in Canada, I am confident we can continue this trajectory through Belgium as we close in on the Paralympic Games.”
