Paralympics Australia would like to thank Queensland Premier, the Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, and Minister for Sport, the Hon Mick de Brenni MP, for the Queensland Government’s funding support of the 2020 Australian Paralympic Team.
The Queensland Government has provided a generous donation of $320,000 towards the Games Appeal for the 16th Paralympic Summer Games, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 25 August – 6 September 2020. They are expected to be the biggest Games in history, with over 4500 Para-athletes competing in 22 sports.
Paralympics Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Lynne Anderson said: “The Queensland Government has a strong and proud history of supporting its Para-athletes, and has always been a great supporter of our organisation. This funding will greatly assist with the Games planning, preparation and support for the athletes while in Tokyo.
“I would also like to congratulate Executive Director Bennett King and his Queensland Academy of Sport team, who are doing an excellent job in preparing Queensland athletes for selection to our Australian Paralympic Games Team for Tokyo, with the qualifying schedule well underway,” Anderson said.
The Queensland Government also provides support to some Queensland athletes who achieve selection to the Australian Team, in the form of $2,700 grants.
